Befriending
Imagine being thousands of miles from all that is familiar to you – language, family, friends and culture.
As a befriender for the SMILE project, you will support on a 1-to-1 basis a refugee child who is struggling at school. Maybe they are being bullied, finding it hard to make friends, or always getting into trouble.
You will support them to identify and access activities that will enable them to enjoy and get on in school. This might be clubs and societies that will allow them to pursue their interests and make friends or homework clubs in order to help them with their school work.
Sometimes you might simply be someone they can talk to or spend a couple of hours a week with without being judged or told what to do.
The minimum time commitment for this role is 12 months.
